Follicular lymphoma

Hi. My husband was diagnosed stage 3 a few months ago.

He has developed a small lump in lymph node under chin a month or so ago. Hospital said not to worry about it. In the last four days it has grown to 2 1/2 inches wide and very visible and is painful. He is reluctant to ring but I think he really should. He is tired and clearly stressed about it.

Please advise.

  • Hi Ariela and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I can see you're hoping to hear back from our nurses so I just wanted to let you know that they don't work over the weekend.

They will respond to you as soon as they can when they return on Monday but if you're worried, it would be best to get in touch with your husband's medical team or to give the NHS a call on 111. They will do all they can to advise you on what to do and hopefully put your minds at ease.

We're thinking of you Ariela and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello Ariela and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your husband. It is difficult to be able to advise you without being involved in his care. It may be a good idea to let his team or if he has a haematology nurse know about any new changes. If it is painful it would be good to get their advice on whether there is anything that your husband can take to help the pain.

We do have some information on our website about follicular lymphoma.

I am not sure whether your husband is having any treatment or he is being actively monitored but either way it is always a good idea to report any symptoms.

I hope you are both getting some support.

Lymphoma Action offer on line support meetings where you can both connect with others in a similar situation.

If either of you would like to ring and chat this through with one of the helpline nurses you are welcome to give us a call. The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thankyou. I have spoken to his team and they have made an appointment in a couple of days.
