Spinal Metastases

Hi i have just been diagnosed with secondary cancer in my spine. I have multiple metastases on my lumbar spine, one on my sacrum and one on my thoracic spine. I had breast cancer in 2023, which involved a left mastectomy, 15 rounds of chemotherapy and 15 rounds of radiotherapy. Since my treatment finished i have been on letrozole, adbemiciclib and leuprorelin injections.

I am due to see my oncologist next week but I would like to know if there is any new research or development in the treatment of spinal metastases or any new trials of drugs of treatments that are happening that I could mention to my consultant. I am only 44 and I really want to try anything that can help me prolong my life. Even if it means travelling abroad. Please can you help me any information you can give me would be gratefully appreciated.

thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation. This must be a difficult time for you and I appreciate you wanting to explore all possible options.

As nurses we don't recommend treatment as this needs to come from your specialist team who are familiar with all your medical details.

We have information on secondary breast cancer and how it may be treated. The charity Breast Cancer now has some further information on this.

Some people like to ask for a second opinion with another oncology ( cancer) team as they want to feel that they have left no stone unturned. If this is something that you would like to do, you could ask your GP or current specialist to refer you. We have some general information about getting a second opinion on our website.

I hope this is of use. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
