Cancer 2ww pathway

I'm in the two week cancer pathway for positive FIT test and rapid weight loss. I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy roughly a month ago. They did not show cancer but I had polyps that have been taken for biopsy. The thing is I had a specific blood test for cancer and a CT scan. I had the blood test on the 23rd of January and the CT scan on the 27th. Wouldn't I have some of those results back by now? And if the blood test came back positive for cancer, wouldn't I get a call from the doctor by now?  Or would they wait for the CT scan to tie everything up? It's causing me untold stress and terrible sleep. I don't feel unwell, apart from the weight loss.

  • Hello stikeyv and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

Usually all suspected cancer cases are discussed in an MDT. I wonder whether this is why it is taking a while to get your results.

You may find it helpful to ring the colorectal secretaries to see if that is the case. MDT meetings usually have long lists with patients to be discussed. They usually meet once a week and if there are too many patients on the list a patient can be deferred to the following week.

I can understand how anxious making it can be to get results back and I do hope you hear more soon.

There is the option of asking PALS to look in to it for you if you are finding it difficult to get the information that you need.

You could also make an appointment to discuss this with your GP particularly as it is causing you stress and affecting your sleep.

Do give the nurses a ring on the helpline if you would like to talk things through.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
