Cervical cancer

Hi

had lots of problems over past year hoping to find out more from nurses so just a quick recap

menapause at 28

no hrt for 30 years then started 18 months ago

vaginal atrophy prevented smear tests and all things penetrating

started bleeding very heavy with hrt and started loosing weight gone from size 20 down to a 10 now

was put on w2w for bleeding and change in bowel had cameras front and back nothing found but some blood work was quirky and kept changing

doctor had frank talk with me saying she was convinced I had it but didn’t know where after all checks she put on a watch and wait with monthly check ups

then had first smear since atrophy and adjustment of hrt so bleeding finally stopped

had the smear on teusday Friday had an appointment for a colposcopy went along on the teusday and was told there is a large lesion on the cervix and I need to have an anaesthetic to have it removed as it’s too big to be removed in clinic

had a pre op the following week and have a nurses appointment this Friday and an op on the 10/03

I was also told that I have high grade hpv and severe dyskaryosis is this likely to be the cancer my doctor is looking for I have other symptoms ie tired weak lathargic and other small things

I know you can’t say yes or no but I’m so worried I’ve stayed away from google latley as that seems to have me dead last year lol but I am. Concerned any thing you can tell me would be appreciated as I’m going out of my mind with worry everyone I speak to says it seems really quick

im sorry it’s so long but thanks for reading

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of everything you have been through with your health and that you are waiting to have a lesion on your cervix removed.

As cancer information nurses not involved in your care we cannot say whether or not this is cancer or if this is connected to the symptoms you are experiencing. Only the doctors who will do your surgery will be able to confirm this.

When you have your appointment with the nurse on Friday do ask them to go through everything with you again. You could ask what they think the lesion is and mention all the concerns you are having. It is possible to have lots of different symptoms that are not linked.

It can be a stressful and anxious time waiting for surgery and the results and it is a period where people often may feel they have no control.

I hope you have friends and family you can lean on during this time. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, you would be welcome to give us a call. We are available between 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

I wish you all the best with your up and coming operation.

    Take care,

    Jemma
