Fear of MRI scans

I hate MRIs.  I have breast cancer so I go into tunnel on my tummy.  Claustrophobia isn't an issue but I tend to feel uncomfortable and nauseous.  Any ideas about how to deal with them?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

MRI scans can be physically uncomfortable for some people especially when lying on the tummy for long periods. Feeling nauseous on top of that must make it even harder.

I wonder if you've spoken to your healthcare team about how you feel during the scan. They should be able to give you something to help with the nausea or adjust things to make you more comfortable. Sometimes, even small changes, like different positioning or breathing techniques can make a difference.

I hope this is of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
