Overactive bladder with Radiotherapy coming soon

Hi all

I'm having my 2nd prostate injection this coming Tuesday and three monthly one, I have a t3a prostate cancer and will be having radiotherapy in 4 to 5 months, I'm really worried about the radiotherapy as I have a really bad overactive bladder, I'm on two bladder medications with relax the bladder but don't seen to be doing much as I'm weeing loads still in the day

I was wondering if I could request having a empty bladder radiotherapy as my prostate buddy who a prostate nurse got me in contact with got in contact with me only to say he had a empty bladder radiotherapy as I've found out more men on other prostate cancer forums have also had the empty bladder radiotherapy, would my oncologist consider this or would it be very unlikely  ?

Kind regards

Peter

  • Hello Peter and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn that you are having treatment for prostate cancer.

The best person to discuss this would be your specialist as they know your situation. We cannot say how widely radiotherapy on an empty bladder is being practised but your specialist will be able to give you more of an idea.

You may find it useful to also speak with your nurse specialist (CNS) if they are easier to get hold of as they can speak to the specialist on your behalf. You may have done this already but it is also worth mentioning the issues you are having with an overactive bladder and that the medication is not very effective.

If you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline we are available between 9am and 5 pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

I wish you all the best with your upcoming treatment,

    Take care,

    Jemma
