NON HODGKINS LYMPHOMA DLBCL

I had NHL DLBCL stage 1E in my nasal cavity.I had treatment and completed it in Feb 2022.My end of treatment scan showed no active lymphoma. My haematologist rang me this week (as planned)with my scan results. He has discharged me.This is welcome news, however I forgot to ask him if this means remission or cure. When I began treatment It was explained the aim of treatment was to cure.Consultant said its unlikely lymphoma would return, as this usually happens after 18 months-2 years.I thought a person had to be seen in clinic after discharge for about 5yrs.Maybe this has changed.I'm not worried but just curious. This news that lymphoma isn't in my body is the best news ever.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate your thoughts on this.

Early stage cancer is often cured by the initial and main primary treatment. Therefore, the clinical follow up care period tends to be shorter in line with this. Your specialist will have based your necessary follow up period, on current clinical guidelines. And also their clinical expertise and experience of caring for similar patients to yourself.

The chances of recurrence for most cancers is recognised at peaking around the 2 year period, when then the chances of it doing so decrease.

I hope that this reply helps,

    Best wishes,
