Could it be genetic

My dad has recently died having been diagnosed with B cell lymphoma, in November 2024.  My mum has non hodgkin’s lymphoma and has been monitored for over 5 years now.  Should or could I have any tests to find out whether I am at risk and whether there is anything I can do.

  • Hi there alipapa66 and thanks for posting

I am so sorry to hear about your dad and your mum having types of lymphoma and appreciate the concerns you may have about your own risk.

There is some thought that people who have a close relative with lymphoma may have an increased risk of developing lymphoma but this risk is relatively small. Researchers think this could possibly be linked to inherited gene changes or shared lifestyle factors.

As I say to my knowledge there is no known inherited gene faults that have been identified or that can be tested for specific to any type of lymphoma at this present time.

It is good to be aware of your body and get any new symptoms checked out by your doctor as well as trying to reduce your risk of cancer, that we have more information about this on our can cancer be prevented web pages.

I hope this helps and wish your mum all the best moving forward.

    Take care

    Naomi
