FOXTROT 3 trial

I have just been diagnosed with locally advanced cancer in the ascending colon on 24th Dec. I have had ct scan and 2 colonoscopys.  Now waiting for 2nd biopsies from last Monday. And now blood results from yesterday, which they said will take 10 days !

It seems a long time !!   Also yesterday I was told I can do the Foxtrot 3 trial . I was given the information, but I don't know if it is the best option for me ??

How can I decide ?  I don't know whether I should do it !!

My head is feeling like it will burst, and I just spend my days crying, then being very positive when my husband of 9 months comes home. My youngest son of 31 lives with us. I have 2 other sons, 5 grandchildren and another one due September..

I was 64 in January. Very active and positive.  Trying to stay that way !

  • Hi MBW and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to read about your recent diagnosis. It does sound like this is a difficult time for you.

People often experience a whole range of emotions when they have cancer. There’s no right or wrong way to feel. Waiting for test results can also cause anxiety. Some tests and blood results may take a long time due to their complexity. But we know that talking can often relieve some of the distress and anxiety. There's some useful advice on Macmillan has some useful advice on how to cope. They have teamed up with BUPA to offer free counselling sessions for cancer patients.

No one can tell you if a trial is suitable or not for you. Maybe you could discuss it more with your hospital specialist and compare it with the standard treatment available at present. The NHS website has information about trials and questions you could ask your specialist. You may also like to read our webpage on the pros and cons of clinical trials which may help you decide if a trial is suitable for you.

I really hope you come to a decision that is right for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
