Query please

Hello,

I hope you can shed some light please?

I was sent to Dermatology at the local hospital  from my GP on a cancer pathway. Dermatology said the next time I’d be seen would be for the cyst on my scalp to be taken away in its entirety as it was suspected melanoma…but have had a call to see a consultant firstly. Why would this be? Could Dermatology have it wrong & surgeon wants to check? They did take pics and use a dermatoscope at my appointment?

many thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I would give the consultant's secretary a ring. It may be that the Consultant wanted to review the lesion themselves first before they decided how they were going to remove it.

It is difficult for me to really say more without being involved in your care. I can understand that it is disappointing as you felt that it was going to be removed when you went for your appointment.

They may also want to do further tests first if they suspect a melanoma though of course I can't be sure.

I am sorry that I am not able to throw more light on the matter but if you would like to talk it through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    all the best,

    Catherine
