CT scan referral after endoscopy

I have just had an endoscopy where they found two  submucal lesions in the upper and middle oesophagus from which they have taken biopsies. I understand they can take up to 12 weeks for the results

From the endoscopy I have been referred for a neck to pelvis ct scan. Does anyone know how long this will take to come through?

Whilst I am feeling positive I suspect the longer I have to wait the more my mind will work overtime

is there a set time frame for these tests? My endoscopy was booked the same day as speaking to my doctor and was done within four days

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation.

I know waiting to have tests and waiting for the results is stressful. Although doctors try and arrange scans as quickly as possible unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly how long you will have to wait to have your CT scan as there will be some regional variations in different NHS Trusts.

But, if you don't hear anything in the next week or two, then do ask your GP to enquire, or ring the specialist/consultant secretary.

There is no easy way to get through the waiting times, but many people tell us that keeping busy and sticking to a routine can help a little.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hello

Thank you for your earlier response

Further to my biopsy I am happy to say the results were negative.

I have since had a ct scan where they have found a goitre and I have been referred to an ENT surgeon. They said it was possibly due to hormones or my thyroid gland. Awaiting review

They did say they saw no cancer but have seen a couple of small lymph nodes on my osophagus for which they have referred me for an ultrasound and said they want to keep any eye on them.

I imagine it will take some time for both appointments to come through.

Do you know what they might be looking for on the ultrasound for the lymph nodes and is this a separate issue to the goitre or could they be connected.

is there still a chance one or the other could become cancerous?

    Thank you

  • Hello, and thank you for coming back to us.

I am afraid we do not know what the doctors might be thinking about your lymph nodes.

It is a very uncertain time waiting for information, but unfortunately it is only your hospital team who will know what is going on. Once you have had the ultrasound you should be able to ask these questions to get some answers.

Take care and I hope you get more information soon.

    Sarah.
