Stress/urge incontinence

I am 9 months post op from prostate cancer surgery. I feel a little embarrassed asking about this when I see some of the questions being  aasked on this forum, but I feel my mental health is suffering because I'm still not dry yet. I'm doing my pelvic floor exercises but I'm wondering if I'm doing them wrong or maybe doing to many because I thought that I would be dry by now. Has anyone got any advice for me please

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I am sorry to learn that you are still experiencing difficulties following prostate gland surgery.

You could make contact with your original hospital team and ask for an appointment. There is normally a urology clinical nurse specialist (CNS) based within the team. You could ask the hospital switchboard for their contact details if you do not have them. There is also a hospital continence service that your GP could refer you to. They are sometimes called the bladder and bowel service. They can assess and advise you.

The UK charity Prostate Cancer UK have an information sheet on pelvic floor muscle exercises which might help as a refresher. They also have a helpline and one to one support and details of local support groups

I hope that this reply helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • Thank you so much Vanda for your reply with the helpful advice, which I will make full use of
