Medical records

I have had an MRI on prostate. Received a PIRAD reading. Undergone biopsy taking and awaiting results. I have not seen the radiologists report  and don’t seem to be able to secure a copy without the whole rigmarole of applying thru medical records. Yet when I had a private paid mri on a neck injury the report was just handed to me. What can I do

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about this situation and can appreciate how frustrating this must be for you. Waiting for biopsy results is stressful enough without having to jump through hoops to see your MRI report.

When you go private, you will usually get the scan report directly, but with the NHS, they often route everything through your GP or consultant. You can ask them directly if they can show you the report or even give you a copy. Some doctors may be happy to do this. If you know which consultant is dealing with your case, their secretary might be able to help speed things up.

If you're set up with the NHS app or your hospitals patient portal, check if the report is available there. Some NHS trusts are making results accessible this way.

If all else fails, you can make a Subject Access Request ( SAR ) for your medical records, but as you said, this can take time and can be a hassle.

I hope you get the answers you need soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
