Squamous cell cancer

I have recently been diagnosed with this on my right ear. It's my own fault for leaving it so long  ( over 6 months) before seeking medical advice but the lesion was painless . I was seen by a Consultant within 2 weeks of referral and then 1 week wait for biopsy

Very impressed by speed of NHS in dealing with this . Can you advise on usual treatment options. I'm an 81 year old man.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Treatments for skin cancer such as SCC, affecting the ear, usually involve micro plastic surgery to remove it, sometimes with a small skin graft. If this is not suitable to do for medical reasons, then they may be able to treat this area with radiotherapy. Unfortunately, we are not able to go into much more detail than that.

Treatment options depend on how big the cancer is, and where it is also. They should be able to outline the pros and cons of any suggested treatment to you.

    I hope this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
