Oesophageal cancer symptoms?

Hello i have put this post on but not sure which category i posted it on. I'm a 38 female with very little top teeth so chewing has been challenging. I've had acid reflux for years on and off pppis but recently the last 3 months I've noticed food feeling stuck in my chest not so much my throat , it feels so hard to go down , then few mins after eating it regeritates up so does liquids this is constant . Like there always food poking up my gullet. I told my gp she put me on the 2 week fast track referral who arranged a tramsnasal endscopy , I went for this however due to anxiety it was abandoned , so a ct with contrast was ordered , again anxiety won I was terrified of the contrast so I had a regular ct from neck to pelvis , which came back all clear , the 2 week referral team discharged me and said no cancer my gp agrees. I should be really happy but I can't help thinking is this enough to rule out cancer ? Could something sinister still be making me feel like my food is stuck ? Any thoughts would be appreciated xxxx

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that have been causing you concern.

I imagine it has been difficult not being able to have the tests. Different tests are used to diagnose cancer including CT scans which can tell the doctors if there is any abnormality that has been picked up. If there was a concern that you might have cancer, they would not discharge you.

If you are still worried about your symptoms then it is worth having a chat with your GP again, explaining that you are still concerned about cancer. You could also ask them if they can explain what might be causing the symptoms and if this can be treated.

I hope you can get some reassurance from your GP,

    Take care,

    Jemma

  • Thankyou for reaching out to me,  it's just so hard that's what I try and put in my mind they must be pretty sure to discharged me . But I was so anxious I didn't complete the endscopy and my mind wouldn't let me agree to the contrast. But I'm still wondering was a ct with no contrast enough ? Are they thinking we'll we can't do anymore tests because she to anxious. I'm thinking if I have cancer it's not getting treated. I told my doctor she thinks it is just anxiety , but it's not I'm ok swallowing but it feels like it stuck in my chest . I just can't move forward I am so depressed not eating .

  • Hello and thank you for your further post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling depressed and unable to move forward. This must not be easy.

I wondered if you have friends or family that you can lean on for support.

If you are continuing to experience symptoms and feeling low, do go back to the GP, I don't know if other than anxiety they have given you any possible causes. I wondered if there is a particular GP that you feel able to talk to and if there is a way for you to be more reassured.

Just to let you know if you are feeling depressed or anxious, organisations that might be able to offer support and advice are Mind and Anxiety UK.

    Take care,

    Jemma
