I have been told my breast cancer is treatable, does this mean it's cureable as well?
Hello Hellsbells70. When my breast cancer returned for the second time, I was told that it is treatable but NOT curable. However, in YOUR case, it could mean BOTH things: That your breast cancer is treatable AND curable. No-one on here can give you an answer unfortunately........why not simply ask your medical team? They are the ones who can give you the answers you need. Good luck.
Hi Hellsbells70 and thank you for posting.
I am sorry to learn that you have breast cancer.
Unfortunately, as cancer information nurses not involved in your care we cannot tell you whether or not your cancer can be cured. I can appreciate this uncertainty can be difficult.
A person's outcome will depend on many things such as the stage of the cancer, (its size and how far it has spread) as well as the grade (how the cancer is behaving), how well a person responds to treatment, along how well a person is generally, whether or not they have other health conditions.
Doctors do not tend to use the word 'cure' but someone might be given the 'all-clear' if after treatment, there are no signs of the cancer.
It is best to discuss this with the team at the hospital who are treating you as they know your situation.
In the meantime, if you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline you would be welcome to give us a call. The freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040 and we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Take care,
Jemma
