Mole on private area

Hi I’ve had this mole on my private area for years now it hurts and it’s got bigger over time

  • Hi Jemma and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are worried about your health. Unfortunately we are unable to diagnose your condition. The best advice I can give you is to visit your GP. GP's are very used to assessing moles and if they suspect something isn't right they will refer on to the dermatologist ( skin specialist). You can read more here about getting your moles checked by your GP.

It's important to keep in mind that many moles can change over time, so it's essential to have anything that looks different checked out to ensure it's not a cause for concern. In most cases, symptoms are not caused by cancer, but it's always wise to have any issues examined just to be safe.

You are right to check your skin for any changes that may occur. As well as the  ABCDE rule which I expect you have read about, there is also the idea of looking for the odd one out, that is a mole that doesn't look like all the others. And the NHS website has a mole assessment tool.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
