Please help me decide whether it’s ok to go away for the weekend

I am having investigations for renal cancer. I haven’t had a diagnosis yet but I am not expecting it to be benign because I haven’t now been referred for a chest scan. I’m due to meet with the consultant for the first time next week. My haematuria is quite bad.
I’m 62 and totally healthy in all other respects. We have a long planned and much anticipated weekend in Portugal this weekend. Is there any reason why I should fly please. Just feeling very anxious. Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I appreciate waiting to find out more about what might be the matter is a worrying time and there is no real way round this. Waiting is hard but hopefully, your doctors will be able to tell you more soon.

We can never tell anyone if it is safe for them to fly whilst they are experiencing symptoms and are still in the process of having tests and investigations. Only your doctor can so we would advise that you speak to your GP or hospital team to check if they have any concerns about you flying this weekend.

Haematuria can sometimes get worse with dehydration, so if you do travel make sure you drink plenty of fluids.

I hope this is of some use and I hope you are able to go on your short break. /give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you for your kindness and advice. I’ve rung the gp
