Bone cancer

Good morning,

My mum aged 75 was diagnosed with bone cancer a week ago after months of tests and pain. She had been told that the steroids caused the fractures and that she did not have cancer.

She has had more blood tests but no appointment with a specialist so we don’t know if it is treatable. Every day she grows significantly weaker and now cannot lift her arms.

Any suggestions how I can help. Do we need to ‘chase’ the Appoitment? Is there hope?

 Thank you

 Susan

  • Hello Susan and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your mum. The doctors may be waiting for the results of the blood tests before they arrange an appointment but I would definitely chase the appointment if you have not heard anything soon.

I am afraid without being involved in her care I don't know what your mum's next steps will be.

I do hope that you hear more soon. There is always the option of encouraging your mum to make an appointment with her GP so she can talk things through with them. They may also be able to chase her appointment up.

If you or your mum would like to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Dear Catherine

Thank you! Spoke to my mum and she now has morphine patches as in so much pain she can’t get out of bed.

Hopefully will get specialist appointment soon,

     Susan
