Lymphoedema and blood test

I have lymph nodes clearance on both armpits.  It was suggested that i should avoid blood tests, injections or blood pressure being taken from both arms to prevent lymphoedema.   However, no NHS hospital would take blood from my foot.  I am in constant worry everytime I have a blood test in case I develop lymphoedema.  Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the treatment you have had and that you are worried about developing lymphoedema.

Whilst many patients are concerned about having blood tests taken from affected arms and hands recent research suggests this doesn't increase the risk of lymphoedema, we have some information about this and reducing your risk on our website.

Do make sure you are keeping active, carrying out exercises, ensuring good skincare as this will all help.

    Best wishes
