Recent diagnosis of advanced lung cancer

I have just received this today and due to the shock I forgot to ask if chemotherapy or radiotherapy will be offered to slow the spread. I know it can't be cured.

Thank you

  • Good morning and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn of your situation. I can imagine this is a worrying time for you.

Since I'm not directly involved in your care, I cannot determine which mode of treatment would be a viable option to slow the spread of the cancer.  It may be that you are offered both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The best person to consult is your hospital specialist, who has all your medical information.

When you are initially diagnosed with cancer, your case is discussed during a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting. During this meeting, all the details from your biopsy and scans are reviewed, and the most appropriate treatment options for you are considered.

The treatment options    for lung cancer will depend on the stages  and grade of the cancer, as well as the specific type of lung cancer you have.

I hope this information helps, and that you soon receive more clarity about your treatment options.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
