late side effects of chemotherapy

Between June and December 2024 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and so followed:

surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Last treatment on 22.11.24   -   2025 was to have been my new beginning

I have developed aching bones, started in one knee, travelled to calf, hips affected then second leg.

Walking hindered but, with perseverance, I can eventually walk relatively ok

Is this a late developing side effect of chemotherapy??  Is it a forerunner to osteoporosis??

I have not seen the oncologist since end of treatment and I am wondering if I should attempt to expedite the promised follow up appointment with oncologist or seek help from GP

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I am sorry to hear about your current symptoms. It would be your GP who addresses this first. They can run some bloods and investigations for you. It could be arthritis unrelated to treatment, so the GP can explore this first. They will communicate with your cancer specialist if required. Low vitamin D levels can cause bone pain so may be ask your GP to check your blood levels. You might want to ask for physiotherapy referral as well.

I hope that things improve for you soon,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
