ultrasound results

Hello I had a gynae ultrasound recently and was told I've got polystic ovaries and a small 1cm fibroid submucal apologies if I spelt that wrong! Gp wasn't worried said all normal.  I don't have symptoms but I asked why aren't I having a biopsy done or further testing.  The gp said no need to radiologist diagnosed fibroids. I'm worried about sarcoma.  I thought all fibroids needs further testing and biopsies to confrim. I suffer from severe health anxiety and really struggling.

  • Hi Bear 3 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to read that you have concerns about your health.

There are several distinguishing features between fibroids and tumours that Radiologists have extensive training to identify. Radiologists have dedicated several years to learning how to distinguish between fibroids and cancerous growths in the uterus using ultrasound.

The ultrasound images may also have been discussed at an MDT. The multidisciplinary team (MDT) is a team of health professionals who will

discuss your imaging results and recommend the most appropriate treatment if needed. If there is any doubt then a biopsy would be requested.

If you are feeling anxious, you could express your concerns to the GP and perhaps ask for a second opinion.

I know this is a difficult time and I can understand you are worrying. Anxiety UK and Every Mind Matters are websites that you may find helpful in trying to reduce your anxiety.

I hope reading this helps and that you find the links helpful
