Moving to Scotland to get Enhertu

Hi - I have been treated for metastatic breast cancer for the last two and a half years.  I am triple negative and Her2++.  My current treatment is Eribulen which has kept me stable for nearly a year but I am conscious time is running out,  My consultant advised me that I would be a good candidate for Enhertu but sadly this I not available on the NHS in England.  I wonder if you know what the process is if we were able to move  Scotland to be treated for cancer and would I be able to access Enhertu via NHS Scotland.

best regards

  • Hello Maxiow and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation this must be a difficult time for you.

Unfortunately, as you say enhertu is only available in Scotland and is only available privately in England.

If you are planning to move to Scotland permanently you can receive NHS cancer treatment. To receive treatment in Scotland you would first of all need to be registered with a GP. To do this you will need to show your identity and may need to prove that you are a resident in Scotland. The GP can then refer you to the NHS hospital to receive treatment.

It is worth speaking with your specialist as they may know of a specialist in Scotland you could be referred to. It might be worth thinking about having a second opinion from a specialist in Scotland first to check if this would be the right treatment option for your situation.

I hope this helps a little. If you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on the helpline our freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040 and we are available between 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Jemma

  • Thank you for the advice Jemma  much appreciated.  My hope is Enhertu will miraculously become available in England but at least I understand the options.

    Many thanks
