Scared

I was diagnosed with Rectal. Cancer oct 2022 and I’m the December had Stoma operation then underwent 25 rounds of chemoradiotherapy early 2023.  I had a good response and and was on watch and wait until a colonoscopy in October 2023 showed regrowth and so in January 2023 had APR with 6 rounds of Capecetabine ending in July 2023. A CT scan in June was clear and bloods taken in August were normal. I’m now devastated to learn that a biopsy of my vaginal wall showed bowel cancer cells.
I’ve not heard what will happen next but I’m having a routine CT on 16th January so hoping that ‘someone’ will be on the look out for my results.
I just feel so tearful and scared now. I’ve come through all that and now I feel I’m starting all over again.

  • Sorry APR was January 2024 followed by Capecetabine ending July 2024

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation and can appreciate the thought of having to think about further treatment must feel overwhelming.

People do vary in the support that they need. You might find your hospital has a Macmillan drop-in or a well-being centre where you can get support. Maggie's provides a variety of support for people affected by cancer. The cancer care map also lists local support services.

The CT scan will hopefully give your doctors more information and they will be able to guide you on what the next steps might be.

We have some general information about advanced bowel cancer that may be helpful.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
