Stage 4 sarcoma query

Hi,

My dad had a stage 4 sarcoma 2 years ago.  He had surgery and it was removed.  He has been fine until 2 weeks ago when he has been expressing pain to that site. Describing it as he feels his bones are shattering.  Today we visited oncology and they have requested an MRI of this area.  Thus episode of pain has been very distressing and it has massively affected his mobility.

Naturally I am very concerned.  How likely is it that the sarcoma could have returned?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about what's been happening with your dad. This must be a worrying time for you both.

Your dad’s symptoms can be caused by several things, and while a recurrence of the cancer may be one possibility, it's not the only reason. Things like a build-up of scar tissue and nerve pain from the surgery or changes to the bones can also cause pain.

The next step is for your dad to have the MRI scan as this will allow the doctor to have a closer look to find out what may be going on.

I presume your dad’s doctors have prescribed him some pain relief to help manage his pain. Hopefully, they are helping but he can let his doctors know if they are not.

I know waiting to find out more is stressful but hopefully you will know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards,

    Celene
