Diarrhoea

Since I had a stem cell transplant 2 yrs ago I seem to suffer with bouts of diarrhoea and can last for upto 3 weeks, I'm on Colesevelam for BAM, I've had lots of bloods test plus poo samples done nothing showed up, has anyone else suffered like this as both my nurse and consultant's are at a loss & it's causing me time off work due to my job I do, any advice or help would be appreciated

  • Dear Fuzzy22 thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of the symptoms you are experiencing, I can imagine when you are having these episodes of diarrhoea this is difficult to manage.

I was unsure if it is thought the bouts of diarrhoea are because of the BAM or if it is not related. This may have been tried already, when you have these bouts of diarrhoea I wondered if other medications have been tried such as loperamide.

Another thought is whether you have been seen by a bowel specialist such as a gastroenterologist. You could speak with your consultant about this if they feel a referral would be helpful.

It might be worth knowing that GUT UK has information about BAM (bile acid malabsorption) which might be helpful, they also link to another website BAD UK that provides information on people living with this condition.

It might also be helpful to re-post on the 'living with cancer' thread where more people in a similar situation may see your post and share their experience.

I hope this helps a little. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, the freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and we are available between 9 am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Jemma
