My 85 year old Dad had a positive FIT test result and is being referred to gastroenterology. In the meantime his bowels are very loose which is distressing for him. Can I but Loperamide over the counter in the short term?

Hi there and thanks for posting
I am sorry to hear about your dad, his symptoms and that he is awaiting further tests following a positive FIT.
We have some information about managing diarrhoea on our website so take a look at this. Whilst loperamide may be okay for your dad to try I would check with either his GP or pharmacist to make sure it is safe and there are no risk factors for him taking it.
I hope you and your dad know more soon and his situation can be managed.
Do get back if you need to.
All the best
Naomi
