Ovarian Cancer and Immunotherapy/Options

Hi to everyone. I'm looking for advice on immunotherapy and other options for my wife (69) who was diagnosed in May 2023 with grade 3 serious peritoneal cancer. She embarked on a course chemotherapy (Paclitaxel and Carboplatin) followed by debulking surgery, then a further course of chemotherapy after which, in January 2024, she was prescribed Niraparib. Her CA 125 continued to rise and there were small signs of disease progression. The Niraparib was discontinued in August and she was prescribed Caelyx and Carboplatin. The disease has continued to progress and the consultant has now advised more chemotherapy with paclitaxel. I asked the consultant about immunotherapy and other options if this didn't work and he said there were none they could offer. Of course we have to hope this latest treatment will start to manage the disease, but if not does anyone have any advice what our next step might be?

I have just found this forum and the compassion in the responses is truly heartening.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your wife's situation. This must be a very difficult time for you both.

As a team of information nurses, we do not recommend treatment as we are not involved in your wife's clinical care. We always suggest patients discuss this further with their specialist ( cancer) team. If your wife has a gynaecology specialist nurse (CNS) involved in her care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

We do have information on our website on how recurring ovarian cancer may be treated.

I hope this is of some use. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
