Change in breasts and pain

Hello, I have been experiencing pain in both my breast for the past 6 weeks, at first I put it down to time of the month but the pain had continued. Since then I have noticed a change in size and shape of my breasts. The last few days I have found a small but very hard lump under my right nipple. Don’t want to waste NHS time if it is just hormonal! Should I get it checked or put it down to hormonal change in my body?
thank you.

  • Hi Lucy.  Yes, you should definitely get your breasts checked.  I don't want to frighten you, but IF it is cancer, then time is of the essence.......the quicker you are diagnosed, the higher your chance of beating this monster.  It is better to be safe than sorry.  Good luck.

  • Hi Lucy and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you concern.

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Only a doctor can make a medical assessment so the best thing to do is to go and see your GP. They will assess you and decide whether you need to go for tests.

While it’s possible that your symptoms are not related to cancer, it’s best to be safe and have yourself checked.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
