I am sorry to hear about your dad’s recent diagnosis. It does sound like this is a difficult and frightening time for all the family.

We are unable to provide a medical opinion on your dad's situation as we are not part of his hospital team; therefore I am unable to tell you what stage your dad's cancer is.  However, I hope the following information will help.

After a cancer diagnosis patients are discussed within a Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting where all the specialists come together to decide the best treatment plan for each individual patient. The decisions are based upon the type and stage ( size and extent) of cancer and if they have any other health conditions that may affect their treatment.

We have information about treatment options for prostate cancer on our website that you may find helpful. Surgery is not always the first choice for treating prostate cancer, regardless of the stage.

If your dad gives consent, you may be able to speak to his clinical nurse specialist. Or you may also be able to discuss your dad's diagnosis and treatment with his hospital team.

There are Maggies Centres that provide emotional support and advice to people affected by cancer. They can give you advice on how to approach your dad’s team.

You don't need to visit a Maggie's Centre; they can provide advice and support over the phone.
