Dizziness after having lung surgery. Should this be happening?

Hi. I had 1/2 my right lung taken out with my lymph nodes 7 weeks ago. My shortness of breath is a lot better in the last week or so. But for the past 2 days I have been suffering with severe dizziness. Last night I stood up and went to go to bed and the next thing I was on the floor . I could not stop myself from going . I did not pass out . Every time I stand up I am dizzy . I do not feel ill at all. I was wondering if it’s due to post op or if it could be my blood pressure .
Thank you

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I would get in touch with your hospital or your GP. There are various reasons why you may be feeling dizzy but it is only a medical examination and some blood tests that may get to the bottom of why this is happening. It could be as a result of feeling weak after the surgery which may have caused you to feel dizzy. It may also be because of your blood pressure or it may be an indication that you have a low haemoglobin.

We have some information on our website about possible problems after lung surgery which you might find helpful to read.

If you are unable to contact your GP or the hospital then I would ring NHS111 for advice.

    I do hope this helps.

If you would like to talk through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
