Thymoma

I am a 78 year old male have been a pescatarian for 50 years and kept myself fit but have been diagnosed with a Thymoma.

i have developed a chronic cough which is so bad I have not developed an inguinal hernia which the won’t operate on because they have found this presumed Thymoma on me Percardium.

I have done my own research but found nothing to help me treat my symptoms.
please help

  • Hi there cornishman1 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with a thymoma which is a type of thyroid gland cancer that we have more information about on the website.

I am also sorry to hear you are experiencing a cough that has led to you getting a hernia that can't be currently operated on.

Unfortunately a cough that doesn't go away is a symptom of a thymoma and it may be difficult to relieve this due to the tumours position, although treatment for the thymoma directly may help. Do speak with your doctor or nurse to ask if they are proposing a treatment plan for you or any recommendations they have to help ease the cough.

I am sorry we cannot be of more help on this occasion.

I hope you know more soon about your situation and the symptoms you have can be managed.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Thank you for contacting me Naomi,

I will heed your advice shame there is very little about Thymomas on the NHS website.

My tumour ‘ARTTY’ seems to be between my Pericardium and my heart and therefore I am suffering with

severe bouts of Tachycardia which leaves me exhausted at times recently I have mean given medication to help

relieve my symptoms. I am now having trouble with my bowels and loose stools.

Having had CT, MRi and Pet scans I sit here frustrated that I have not been kept updated on the findings.

I am sorry to vent my spleen to yourselves and at sounding impatient.

Thank you once again for your advice.

    kind regards,

    Cornishman1
