Possible Cancer

Hi,

This is my first thread\post.

Over 3 weeks ago I had my appendix removed using key hole surgery. I'm diabetic so the recovery has been slow and improving.

Recently I have had pain on my right side around my side ribs, just below the lung area. I have been asked to come and have a mammogram as I was told that something was seen either on the X-Ray or CT scan. Is there a need to worry that I might have cancer as this was mentioned as a possibility?

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your recent operation followed by some abnormal findings on a scan you have had done.

For now try and take things one step at a time. There can be many reasons for abnormalities to be found on imaging but often further tests are needed to find out more.

It sounds like you are being called for a mammogram to look a little closer at what was seen on the scan. If a suspicious area is highlighted they may wish to follow on with an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy ( tissue sample) to confirm what it is.

There are many different breast conditions include those that maybe benign ( non cancer). Most people needing to have further investigations won't go on to be diagnosed with a cancer but it is important to rule out this possibility.

I hope you know more soon and that everything turns out okay for you.

Do get back with any more questions or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    All the best
