Update

hello, just an update from previous, I finally saw a dermatologist, she's slightly worried as under the mole there some sort of blackness, as well as it growing each week looking differently, I'm worried as I've been fast tracked to get it removed at the hospital in the next 2 weeks as they couldn't remove at the surgery, I'm really worried and can't stop thinking that it maybe cancer, it's right on my temple and now I'm scared, really worried as I have 3 year old, mum with lung disease and grandma with pneumonia all at once

  • That's a lot. If it's any comfort my partner is likely in remission two years after being diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. The new immunotherapy treatments are a lot to derive hope from.

If it is, I hope it's been caught early and if it is and there's been unnecessary delay I'd make a complaint. My youngest was a toddler when his dad was first diagnosed. We'd given up hope until a couple of weeks ago as all his treatment has been described as palliative.

If you want to keep in touch you can add me on here. I'll keep up with how you're getting on.

My partner's was on his scalp so he needed a skin graft. It's all been pretty traumatic for him and us as a family over the last few years.

    Good luck xx

  • Hi there and thanks for the update

I am sorry to hear you have so much going on at the moment and it is understandably a worrying time for you.

For now try not to worry or over think this until you have all the information. The dermatologist has fast tracked you which is the quickest way for you to be seen so hopefully you will know more soon.

Waiting and not knowing is unsettling for people but for now i'm afraid no one can tell you any more than you already know and it is about sitting tight.

Some people find keeping themselves busy and their mind on other things can help pass the time and avoiding searching up on google, which cannot diagnose you.

I hope everything works out okay for you, do get back in touch if needed.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • I just got a text today saying I have an appointment booked for the 7th tho slightly worried and scared I have to go alone more then anything, my anxiety about it all it's sky high, not sure how I'll manage to sit alone

  • What time of day is it? I'll be thinking of you x

  • Hi,

Please try not to worry about the excision. It's usually a quick procedure, under local anaesthetic and you are given time to rest & have a cuppa & a biscuit before they let you leave. I always go for mole excisions on my own as hubby would be left in the waiting room for an hour & he gets more anxious than I do, which doesn't help! Is there anyone that can pick you up though as it's not ideal to travel home on your own straight away?

It's good that you aren't waiting long for the removal and hopefully the results will show it's benign but if it isn't, there is every chance it's been caught early & it will be successfully treated by surgery.

Good luck on Tuesday & please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • It's just worrying as I went to the doctors about it almost 6/7 months ago and can see it changed even over 2 weeks in December

ill update everyone on the thread once ive been on Tuesday, i will be going alone as mum live down Poole and im Huddersfield, someone is going to look after my daughter while i go too, but not sure, I could always get a taxi home?

  • Yes, best to get a taxi home. Although you could drive, as the location of your mole won't affect driving, the anxiety & trauma of even a small procedure will mean your concentration for driving will be affected. You also don't want to be using public transport, especially with all the seasonal bugs going around. x
