What is 'caught early?'

Hi all,

I am absolutely terrified, my anxiety is going through the roof! I have been ref. on the urgent pathway for an ultrasound scan, I had similar symptoms in October, had the scan and all was well. I am now thinking if I do have female/gynea cancer that has developed in the last two months, would this be considered an early diagnosis? I cannot stop crying, feel so desperately frightened :(

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and that you have been referred for an urgent ultrasound.

Please try not to over think this or worry for now if you can. There can be many different reasons for symptoms and most won't be related to a cancer.

As you had an okay ultrasound earlier this year hopefully everything is okay but further tests will be able to make sure this is the case. If they need to carry out any other tests they will explain this to you along the way.

As and when a cancer is diagnosed it is classed as caught early when a cancer is small, contained to one place and/or the cells don't look that dissimilar to normal cells.

I hope you know more soon.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
