Bowel and adrenal

Hi there well first worried out of my mind as I am sure most people are on here. I was referred for a two week bowel scan suspected bowel cancer, turns out I had ulcerative colitis, had a failed colonoscopy too much pain for me as had no pain killer as allergic to morphine. CT ordered with contrast, had a phone call Christmas Eve saying they had  found something on my adrenal gland. Today another CT scan, what was scary they said we will do a scan first and then let the radiologist look at it to decide if we need contrast, sat on the table waiting and waiting and then they said no need for contrast?? So know unsure if this is good or not, I literally sat on the chair after and broke down so exhausting and stressful

  • Hello Helen, and thank you for posting.

It sounds like you have had a bit of a rollercoaster in the last few weeks, so I am not surprised you are feeling exhausted and emotional.

Contrast in a CT scan is used when the radiographer feels that where they are looking in the body needs to be clearer than the basic picture. This is not anything to worry about, it is just the radiologist making sure that the scan gets them the information they need.

Most things that develop on the adrenal glands are adenomas which are benign (not cancer). Cancer in this part of the body is rare, but this said it is still important for them to fully investigate.

Take care and hopefully, you will get your results soon. If you want to talk anything through with the nurses on the helpline the number is 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri 9-5.

    Sarah.
