High CA125

I had a CA125 test about a year ago that came out at 134, and was told it was nothing to worry about. At that time my ovarian cyst was slightly bigger than a grapefruit and was recovering from bilat al pulmonary embolism, so not able to go under a GA. Fast forward to the 9th of this month, when I was supposed to have my now watermelon sized cyst removed via keyhole surgery. The surgeon refused as said it was too risky and needs to get it out whole. Did some maths with my Ca125 result and came out with a total of 700, saying that if it burst inside me it would spread cancerous cells throu out my body. That was a horrible shock. I’ve had urgent lung function and echocardiogram tests within a week as I’m now on the “cancer pathway” He told me my full hysterectomy and cyst removal will be within the next 10 days, I’m so scared. My FIL keeps saying that it’s only a guideline and nothing’s for certain until the cyst gets to histology. What doesn’t help is my brother has just been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and will be undergoing chemotherapy and an operation to remove half his stomach by May xx

  • Hi Tibblesmum,

Thank you for posting, I am sorry to learn of your situation and what a shock it has been for you. I was also sorry to learn about your brother's situation this must be so difficult for you all.

I can appreciate there is a lot of uncertainty for you but as your FIL has said once you have the operation then the doctors will be able to give you more information.

At the moment all you can do is take a day at a time. I hope you have support at this time with family and friends that you can lean on.
