Another colposcopy referral

Hi all

I have persistent hpv, colposcopy Nov 23 showed cin1 which they decided to wait and see on.  Had smear done last month (Nov 24) which showed hpv still present but cytology negative and no abnormalities detected.

I had a little pink stained discharge over the weekend, not constant jist on a couple of occasions so have been to gp this morning.

She has referred my on the 2ww back to colposcopy after looking at my cervix she said there was possibly some ectropia and a 'vessel' visible.  When I asked what she meant she said a blood vessel??

My mind has taken me to some dark places and I'm unable to sleep.  I keep thinking surely it can be so bad or the cytology would have picked it up??

Any advice very welcome while I wait for my appointment!

  • Hi Coll26 and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation, it can be an anxious and stressful time waiting for tests and results.

I am afraid no one can say what the colposcopy will show until you have it.

Although you were still found to be HPV positive, it can take a couple of years for the immune system to clear the virus and it is good news that no abnormal cells were found following your recent cervical smear.

I hope you do not have to wait too long for your appointment and can get some reassurance soon. In the meantime easier said than done but try not to overthink things, if you can avoid looking at the internet for answers as this can't tell you what the cause of your symptom is and can heighten anxiety.

Take care, if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on the helpline, we are available between 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040
