Stage 4 prostate cancer treatment plan

Hello,

My Dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 uncurable prostate cancer, he has already begun a course of Chemotherapy consisting of 6 session at a 3 week interval, they are going to follow this up with radiotherapy. The Chemo should last until until April 2025 and the Radio to June 2025. Looking further ahead to later 2025 is it possible for him to receive more chemo this year? is there a minimum 'break' period after receiving a full course before starting another bout of treatment? Many thanks

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your dad's situation and the treatment he is currently undergoing.

It is difficult to predict the future or what other treatments may be needed further down the line and for now it is best to concentrate on the today and getting him through his current treatment.

The doctors will be reviewing your dads response to treatment at regular intervals. If they notice the treatment hasn't done what they had hoped for or that the cancer is starting to grow again they may think about a different chemotherapy drug.

There aren't any particular time frames for having further chemotherapy as long as there is a need and benefit for it and the patient is well enough to receive it.

The team involved in your dads care are in the best position to advise you about his treatment plan and what the next steps would be.

    I hope this is helpful

    Best wishes

    Naomi
