Hello and thanks for your post,
I am sorry to hear about your situation. I would check with your hospital about travelling on hospital transport. A lot will depend on your blood count. You will be more susceptible to infection and you may find that you get quite tired particularly towards the end of treatment. A lot also depends on whether you have any other symptoms such as feeling sick.
You could also ask if there was a car service at your hospital.
There is some NHS information about transport to and from the hospital. Do make the hospital aware that you are unable to organise private transport to and from the hospital.
Macmillan have Benefits advisers and they can sometimes give one off payments which if you are eligible may pay towards a car to take you back from the hospital.
I hope this helps but do ring and speak to one of the nurses on the helpline if that would help. the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
All the very best,
Catherine
Hi catherine
thanks for replying . I have spoke to people about getting help financially but as I am retired and have my pension there is unfortunately no financial help for me . I don’t qualify for any benefits either which would have given me more chance of getting financial help . I have my freedom pass so it doesn’t cost me anything to use public unless I have early appointments. I’ve looked into hospital transport but because I’m able to walk and use public transport that is not available to me either . I’ve got a few weeks until I start rad treatment as not finished chemo regime yet . Thanks for your help
kind regards val
