Need advice

I have extreme fatigue, brain fog, complete shortness of breathe and go bright red in the face from small amounts of activity, frequent bowel movement, phlegm/a cough for 4 months, body/joint pain, pain up the side of my face, neck and ear. I have also began to completely lose my appetite and sometimes it hurts to swallow. I have swollen lymph nodes and a burning feeling on roof of mouth. I have blood in stool sometimes and pain in my ears. Could this be thyroid cancer?

  • Really need to see gp with this. Could be bowel cancer as that can cause anemia ( causing tiredness) and blood in stool.

No one except the specialists can diagnose properly, and you need to get a proper diagnosis before you start casting around for possible causes.

It is also important to get in the system ASAP as earlier diagnosis = better outcome.

    Good luck

  • I’ve seen the gp numerous times and they are very unbothered. I’ve had a lot of bloods that came back clear apart from low folate. They’re refusing to give me any kind of scan due to “radiation exposure”

i’m a 20 year old girl so they’re quite content just brushing me off as they obviously think i’m being dramatic. however i can confirm im not. ive had some of these symptoms for over a year now

Low folate is a type of anemia, can be as a result of blood in stools.

That should be taken seriously.  Can be polyps, and other symptoms could relate to a completely different condition.

I think you should ask for a referral to a specialist for the bleeding, and try to tackle the symptoms one at a time rather than finding a cause for them all. ( I know this from experience)

Little bit of research shows that low folate can cause lots of " odd" symptoms.  Some that may relate to some of the symptoms you describe.

The rectal bleeding, however, is not OK  if it is more than a one off. Needs investigating.

Rectal bleeding,  as I understand it, can cause anemia in various forms ( such as low folate(, so you may have several conditions caused by  one . Go to gp with main concern ( rectal bleeding) if it is a regular occurrence.  Be calm, look to get progress with that first ( ie referral to hospital)

    thank you :)

My gp said the low folate doesn’t cause anything other than the fatigue from the symptoms i described

  • Hello Aimeeshe,

Hmmm reading this it sounds like you are not feeling you are getting the right support from your GP to help you and I totally get this.
Fit’s I would leave dr google out of this, it is not factually up to date or even correct.    Only a doctor can provide a diagnosis once they have all the facts.

There is an NHS service you could use to get a bit more support with dealing with your doctors.  It’s called PALS and they can help you ensure you getting the right support to help you.

    here is the link https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/hospitals/what-is-pals-patient-advice-and-liaison-service/

If you have more than one doctor and you can go and see a different one, I would try that if you have not already.
Just write down the symptoms you are having right now, one by one, so that you provide all the information in one go and you don’t forget anything.
I have also used 111 in the past, mainly when my GP was shut to avoid clogging up A&E and they are also very good.

i am not sure what radiation exposure is but it sounds like they may have carried out screening of some sorts already. If there are no anomalies to report on the output from those investigations  then that is good news and what you need is information about what you can try next to alleviate your symptoms.
We have the best diagnostic tools in the NHS and there is a lot of support within the NHS too and PALS is a good place to start.

I hope you get the support you need in this as I know the anxiety all this causes by not understanding what is causing problems but do take the next step to get answers.

    All the best

    Sylv

  • Hello! I have already contacted PALS. Radiation exposure is just exposing me to radiation from like scans etc. they are refusing to give me any kind of scan however i think it’s gonna be the only way to see what’s going on. I also tried 111 on Thursday. The 111 operater took it seriously and said i need to be seen straight away however when i got their i was trying to explain to the receptionist the situation and she was cutting me off and said im fine and its just a viral infection. I am no doctor but I can confirm firm this is not a viral infection. I just want to hear other peoples stories and what they have been through to try and understand for myself since professionals aren’t willing to help me
