Thyroid Papillary CA follow-up

Hello

I have been in the UK for 6 months. I had a Thyroid surgery for Papillary CA before. Then I had Radioactive Iodine treatment. I have blood tests every 3-6 months for control (thyroglobulin etc.). My controls in the UK were interrupted. I registered with my GP and requested that he refer me to the relevant branch. He referred me to another GP. This GP referred me to the ENT branch. I have been waiting for an appointment for 5 months. Did he refer me to the right branch? Referrals to specialist doctors in the UK are a bit complicated and very slow. I asked the GP to check my thyroglobulin level, he said I do not have the authority to request this. I have been waiting in line for a long time for a very simple blood test. Is this the right branch for an ENT control? If this is also wrong, I will have waited in vain. I may need to take action now.

Thank you for your help.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

Follow-up for thyroid cancer is talked through on these pages of our website.

The ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist at the hospital, when you see them, will be aware of what blood tests and scans they need to do to ensure you are monitored in line with the NHS framework. But I understand that waiting for this to happen can be hard. If you remain concerned do go back to the GP maybe with any paperwork you have about your diagnosis and treatment and let them know you haven't been seen.

I am sure it has been a stressful time moving to another country, I hope you are settling.

The Butterfly Trust is a thyroid cancer charity in the UK which may be helpful to you at this time.

Take care and if you want to talk to the nurses on the helpline the number is freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines open mon-fri 9-5.

    Sarah.
