Breast lump, indentation and swollen lymph nodes

Hi Everyone,

I found a lump in my right breast and have a slight nipple indentation, I've also have slightly swollen lymph nodes under right arm. I saw my GP who said the indentation was obvious before she examined me also confirmed lymph nodes were swollen and a 1 cm lump found.

I've been referred to the breast clinic on the 2 week pathway. Obviously I am going out of my mind with worry and have googled symptoms etc. which has heightened my worry. I'm also experiencing a dull ache under my right rib cage which makes me feel nauseous, could this be caused by stress? Or related?

Thank you from an over thinker. X

  • Sorry forgot to say, the indentation is in my nipple not my breast.

  • Hi Bilco1 and thank you for posting,

Waiting for tests and test results can be a stressful and anxious time.

Often people will overthink things and may feel they have no control over what is happening to them. There is no right or wrong way to deal with these feelings.

We cannot say what the cause of the dull ache is and whether or not it is connected to the breast symptoms. It is quite possible they are not related.

I am afraid it is a matter of waiting and sitting tight until you have your appointment, where you will be examined and are likely to have further tests to find out what your situation is.

In the meantime, easier said than done, try not to overthink things and avoid searching on the internet for answers as this can heighten anxiety and cannot diagnose you.

I hope you have friends and family that you can lean on during this time.

If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you would be welcome to call our helpline on freephone 0808 800 4040. We are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Take care,

    Jemma

  • Thank you Jemma for you reply, I totally understand it is a waiting game which is the hard bit.

I am trying to keep positive and have a great network of support. I will keep you updated when I have had the tests done.

    Have a good Christmas. X
