Cervical cancer

Hello!
My partner has been diagnosed with stage 3 c1 cervical cancer. I work away for weeks at a time, so I wasn’t with her when they told her the treatment etc. how serious is this type of cancer? Is it very advanced? I’d just like to understand it better and Google isn’t really  helping!
thanks

  • Hello Good Pigeon and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your partner. This must be a difficult time for you both.

Cervical cancer is divided in to 4 stages and you partner is stage 3. Being stage 3 makes it harder to get rid of but the doctors will do all they can to manage and control it but they may not be able to get rid of it altogether. A lot will depend on how your partner responds to any treatment that she is given.

Your partner will have been discussed in an MDT which is a large formal meeting where all the different doctors involved in her care meet to discuss her case. Any treatment decisions are usually made at this meeting.

With your partners permission it may be helpful to try and be around for one of the consultations so you can have an understanding how best to support her particularly if you are away quite a bit.

You may find it more helpful to give one of the nurses a ring on the helpline. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. The nurses are not here on Christmas Eve or the bank holidays.

    All the best,

    Catherine
