Cervical lumps, telephone appointment

Hi, I've had various new symptoms of cervical cancer over the last year but kept being told it's just linked to my endometriosis. Finally this week a GP listened to me and examined me. She said my cervix is red/inflammed and there are 2 - 3 visible lumps, one of which is quite a reasonable size (I can feel it myself). She did the urgent 2ww referral and I've just received my appointment, but it says it's a telephone call. Is this normal? Does this mean they wont actually see me in person to test anything within the 2 weeks? I'm extremely scared as I'm a single mum to 2 young children who have no one else, and with my symptoms going on for over a year and the lump growing rapidly I can only think the worst. Thank you

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting to find out more.

It is difficult to be sure why you are having a phone call in the first place but it maybe because of Christmas. The phone call will give you a chance to describe your symptoms to the specialist and they will hopefully be able to tell you about some investigations that they may be arranging. Do ask them when any tests will be arranged so you have an idea about when you might expect to have them.

Do write down exactly when your symptoms started and don't be afraid to ask any questions. . It sometimes helps to have someone else listening to what the doctor has to say. Do let them know about your concerns.

There are other non cancerous conditions so try not to over think it too much for now.

If you would like to chat to one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring.

The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the nurses are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5pm.

We are closed on Christmas Eve and all of the Christmas bank holidays.

    All the best,

    Catherine
