Biopsy results

Good morning, my wife had a hysteroscopy in November and was informed on Friday of last week that she will get a call on Saturday 21st to discuss the results of the biopsy. At the time of the procedure the doctors informed my wife that everything looked fine. My question is, would they inform my wife over the phone if the biopsy showed signs of cancer and also would they wait another week to inform her, as I’m sure you can imagine this is a very stressful time and knowing we have to wait another week for the results only adds to the stress. Thank you

  • Dear Enquirer,

Hello and thank you for your post.

I am afraid that there is no straight answer to your question. Some, hospital teams, who have already met with the patient may give the information about biopsy results over the phone. However, some will want to do this, whatever the result, face to face, particularly if there is already an appointment in place.

So, I am afraid you will now have to see what will happen.

Wating for results is never easy so I hope yuo will both be ok. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,
