Biopsy

Had digital exam of prostate, referred to urology, MRI within days, have to go for biopsy in two days. No one tells you anything, Google makes anxiety worse, I'm quite frightened tbh. Does MRI show cancer and biopsy is to grade etc. could it be something else. I have PTSD and I'm not coping.

Thankyou

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I can understand that being given this information can appear overwhelming. I am sure over the next two or three weeks things will become much clearer as you know what to expect. Do try and take one day at a time and try if you can not to over think it all.

The MRI tells the doctors how likely it is that you have cancer but a biopsy is needed to get more information. You may find it helpful to look at the information about the MRI and what information it tells the doctors.

You can read more about the MRI results here. The doctors at the moment are still trying to gather all the information together to confirm whether you have a cancer and if so how best to treat it. They are probably not telling you much at the moment as they are waiting to get all your results.

Once they have got your biopsy, all the doctors involved, meet in a formal meeting and discuss your case. This happens in all suspected cancer cases. Once this meeting happens you will probably be allocated a prostate cancer nurse and all will become much clearer.

When you go for your biopsy do make the doctors aware that you suffer from PTSD and this is all making you feel very anxious.

You may also find it helpful to talk it through with your GP if you can get an appointment before Christmas.

You are also welcome to ring the nurses on the helpline. We are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 but we are not here on Christmas Eve and the bank holidays.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thankyou Catherine. Tomorrow will tell. I wish you all the best for Xmas and New year.
