paclitaxel and carboplatin

Had my 1st chemo on Wednesday. Since last night (friday) I have been having the worse aches and pains all over my body and in every joint. The pain is immense. Is this normal? I phoned the 24hour line and they told me to take paracetamol or to contact 111. I took paracetamol but they have not worked. I'm still trying to get through to 111.

  • Hello Ellis8989,

Unfortunately our nurses are not online over the weekend but they will get back to you in the next few days. You did well to phone the 24 hour line and to get in touch with 111 and I hope that you manage to get through to 111. Perhaps you could try ringing the helpline again and make sure you tell them the pain is immense, that the paracetamol hasn't worked and you have been having these terrible aches and pains in every joint since having your first chemotherapy on Wednesday. As you mention the pain is very strong, if you feel that you need to be seen urgently, you can also call 999 or go to A&E to get checked. I hope that you manage to get through to 111 and that you manage to speak to someone and get medical advice very soon as you should not be suffering like this in silence.

I hope you feel better soon and that this terrible pain goes away soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have just started chemotherapy and aren't feeling well at all. I hope you have managed to be assessed by a doctor by now and that things are starting to ease for you.

Everyone is affected by treatment and side effects in different ways but most of the time these improve with time and there are things that can be done to manage them.

Please get back in touch if you need to or you are welcome to call one of the nurses on the helpline if you prefer. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we're here weekdays (except christmas eve and bank holidays) 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
