Support

I need help supporting a friend please

  • Just wanting a bit of help supporting my best friend through cancer

  • My best advice is follow their lead. Ask them how you can support them, ask them what they need while you work out a new rhythm in your friendship. Speaking from experience as someone who’s done the fight and needed a lot of support

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your friends situation and appreciate how you may wish to help and support them at this time.

As others have already said to you on the forum, letting your friend know that you are there for them and asking them directly what they may need from you is a very good starting point.

Often the needs of patients will change as they go through treatment so do check in with them at various stages to make sure they are okay and have everything they need.

Help looks different to everyone, some people will want someone to emotionally support them and talk to. For others it may be practical things such as running an errand, taking them to hospital or picking up some shopping.

We have a section of information on our website about how to support someone with cancer, so do take a look at this for suggestions.

I hope this is helpful but please get back if you have further questions, alternatively give us a call on 0808 800 4040, were here weekdays 9-5 although we are closed on christmas eve and bank holidays.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
